Construction Dust Control Systems and Equipment
Construction dust is often created on-site and can be harmful when workers are regularly exposed to dust continuously. Exposure to dust in the workplace can cause Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a long-term illness which causes damage to the lungs and breathing tubes, resulting in difficulty breathing.
Silica dust is the suspected cause of over 500 deaths a year in the construction industry, whilst 4,000 die each year due to COPD linked to the workplace.
The Construction and demolition industry can benefit from dust suppression solution as construction dust can be harmful to workers and those in the immediate area where dust is created. Within construction sites, dust control is essential to ensuring workplace safety is maximised.
Air Spectrum Environmental provide a wide range of dust control systems, predominantly in the form of water-based- dust suppression, applied through misting or fogging equipment to provide a dust control plan for construction companies.
Within construction sites, dust suppression systems are available in a range of sizes to meet individual needs, we provide Rotary Atomisers which provide a more finely atomised mist, or a Rotary Atomiser PRO for larger projects which require more power. Our Rotary Atomiser is also available as an ‘ecotech’ system – ecotech is a battery-operated system, an eco-friendly alternative, providing the same great product with a full day’s power from one overnight charge. The ecotech emits no harmful emissions and is much quieter than a typical diesel generated system.
Demolition:
For demolition sites, dust control equipment such as dust cannons act as an effective solution for keeping demolition dust under control. The DC30 and DC32 provide a powerful throw of mist, reaching over 30+ metres for larger demolition or construction projects.
Within demolition, dust control methods can be implemented by using water to bring dust down in the air and keep it grounded.
Dust suppression additives such as DST, can also be incorporated into a dust control plan for construction or demolition. DST effectively supports water-based suppression to bind with dust in the air and keep it grounded. Dust monitoring and assessment can also form an essential role in analysing dust exposure and can provide industries such as construction with dust control plans. Spectrum Environmental support offer dust assessment and monitoring services. Occupational exposure monitoring is used to help sites assess the level of dust exposure to employees and then implement control measures within the workplace. Completed in-line with COSHH Regulations (2002), occupational exposure monitoring can be adapted to a site-specific basis and asses if site exposure limits are below Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL).
Other Dust Control Systems:
For indoor environments, an electrostatic dust control system – StaticAir – can be introduced to control and reduce fine particulate matter that is likely to be created. Fine dust can be harmful once inhaled and indoor StaticAir systems such as PMX or PMR-Tube can reduce the amount of fine, unnoticeable respiratory dust within the air. StaticAir solutions are an eco-friendly dust control system, as they’re energy-efficient, low maintenance and quiet operation for minimal disturbance. The StaticAir systems are effective in removing dust from building materials making them an option to be used in motion with water-based dust suppression within the construction industry.
